Lewiston airport sees increase in burglaries

Posted: 4:40 pm PST February 7,2010

The manager of the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport says there's been a "dramatic" increase in parking lot crime at the facility that could be related to an increase in theft at airport businesses.

Robin Turner says there aren't numbers available but that the amount of crime in the last year exceeds the previous 25 years put together.

Lewiston police say they investigated 30 incidents at the airport in 2009, with most of those being break-ins or thefts.

Police say one business that has since left the airport was burglarized four times in 2009.

Police say their numbers don't include incidents that occurred at the airport but were reported elsewhere.
