Idaho man who chained daughter sentenced

Posted: 2:01 pm PST December 18,2009

An Idaho Falls man has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for chaining his 8-year-old daughter to an air compressor in the garage.

The Post Register reports that 7th District Judge Jon Shindurling said Thursday that 46-year-old Joseph Blaze Murray would be eligible for parole after serving three years in prison.

Murray pleaded guilty to second-degree kidnapping in August. Police reports said that Murray chained his daughter at least twice, once in the garage and once in the living room, because he said he was frustrated with her emotional and mental disorders and needed to keep her from running away.

Shindurling said Murray's behavior was inexcusable.
