Palin Mania: Hundreds brave the cold night for Sarah's signature

COEUR D'ALENE -- The Inland Northwest’s Sarah Palin fans began lining up for a chance to get her autograph hours before the former Vice Presidential candidate was set to show up at the Coeur d’Alene Fred Meyer.Sarah Palin is on a nation-wide book signing tour for her memoir “Going Rogue: An American Life” and is making a stop in Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint Thursday.Mary Ann Porter from Spokane was the first Palin supporter to get in line at the Fred Meyer along Kathleen Avenue. She arrived at 10:30 Wednesday morning and set up camp.“I just really, really admire Sarah Palin, I like her a lot, she’s worth staying up all night for,” Mary Ann Porter said.
blog comments powered by DisqusWith temperatures dipping into the single digits overnight, Fred Meyer provided portable heaters for the line of people.Those lined up for the former Alaska Governor brought tents, blankets, sleeping bags, board games and warm drinks to get them through the night.Mac Yocum lives in Coeur d’Alene now, but used to live in Wasilla, Alaska, where Sarah Palin presided as a city council member and eventually the mayor.“It’s wonderful, we just love and support Sarah, my family has always supported Sarah even in the mayoral candidacy, we’d really like to see her run in 2012,” Yocum said.Yocum was surprised by how quickly the line grew. More that 700 people were camped out for the noon signing by 5 a.m. Thursday and growing.Palin will be signing books in Coeur d’Alene for three hours starting at noon. She will only sign copies of her book and personalize the autographs or take pictures.Most authors can sign roughly 1,400 books in a three hours period, but her camp says she’s very social with her fans so she might only get to about 700.The book signing location is at 560 West Kathleen Avenue. Fred Meyer opened their doors at 7 a.m. to get people out of the cold.
