Dry Fly ready for early morning whiskey run

Dry Fly Distillery is planning to release its second batch of whiskey Friday, with their doors opening early to satisfy the expected crowd.

People at the distillery have heard that people plan to camp in the parking lot overnight in anticipation of the release of its second batch of whiskey so they're planning on opening their doors at 6 a.m. so people won't have to wait out in the cold.

When the distillery released its first batch of whiskey in August people lined up down the block and 300 bottles in that batch sold in only 90 minutes.

Production of new whiskey continued Thursday. Dry Fly’s whiskey is made with soft winter wheat from the Palouse and is the first 100-percent whiskey wheat made in the United States in about 100 years.

It was recently named the spirit of the month in a national spirit magazine and with that publicity they expect the Friday morning release to be busy.

“We expect to sell out pretty fast, not as fast as last time because of the cold but we are so blessed to have such loyal friends and fans,” Dry Fly co-owner Don Poffenroth said.

This year Dry Fly released 160 cases of whiskey and next year they plan to ramp up production and release about 900 cases.
