SPOKANE -- With the help of the Spokane community, the Union Gospel Mission will be able to feed families in need this Thanksgiving.
blog comments powered by DisqusThe Union Gospel Mission helps feed about 500 people Thanksgiving dinner and provides turkeys to 26 other ministries that feed an additional 700 people every year. They rely strictly on turkey donations but there seems to be a lack of effort this year. With just one week left until the holiday, the mission had only received 10 turkeys as of Thursday. After the mission's plight was broadcast Thursday on the evening news, the community stepped up and donated more than 100 turkeys Friday morning.Bob Delzer dropped off four turkeys and other community members just like him are quickly responding to the mission's plea.“Saw it on TV last night that the bins empty and I thought I could help out,” Delzer. The Mission is grateful for the response but still needs more turkeys. The extras are given to the food bank for people to take home.“It's been a great response,” UGM Kitchen Supervisor Steven Viers said. “It's great to know Spokane as a community will come together when there's a cause worthy of coming together.”To donate turkeys simply drop them off at the Union Gospel Mission.
