Spokane County Sheriff's deputies are trying to track down a man who beat up a cab driver early Friday morning because he didn't have the cash to pay for a ride.

Deputies say it happened near Upriver Drive and Havana around 3 a.m. in Spokane Valley.

The driver said he tried to kick the customer out of the cab when he found out the man didn't have money to pay for the ride. That's when the man began beating the driver, who was subsequently sent to the hospital for treatment.

Deputies searched for the suspect with a K-9 unit, but the trail went cold.
