A 56 year-old man fell to his death Monday hiking with his wife in the Dishman Hills Natural Area.

Stuart Anderson and his wife were geocaching - a high-tech hide and seek game where people use GPS devices to find containers hidden around the world - when he slipped and fell about 100 feet down a cliff.

Police believe he was dead upon hitting the ground at around 1:20 p.m.

“According to the wife he just disappeared,” Lieutenant Gary Smith, Spokane County Sheriff's Office, said.

Stuart's friends and family are understandably shaken up by what happened.

“It's sad, you lose a good friend, it's always bad,” next door neighbor Ray Bourquin said.

Police say it's easy to lose your footing in areas like the one where Stuart fell from and you should always be careful when hiking near a cliff.
