Single mom ecstatic to receive truck from charity

Non-profit organization ElderHelp of North Idaho changed its role Friday when they gave away a Ford Ranger to a deserving single mother.

Wendi Harris of Hayden was pleasantly surprised Friday when she was selected out of about 50 nominations to receive the truck.

Wendi works seven days a week and is the mother of two boys. Wendi hasn't had the best of luck in the last year: She was recently divorced, a business owner in a struggling economy, and was forced to sacrifice her car to keep a roof over her sons' heads.

Wendi managed to get her kids to school and herself to work with the help of a few supportive friends but sometimes she was forced to scrounge together enough cash for a taxi. All of that changed Friday.

“Someone is looking out for me,” Wendi said of whoever wrote the anonymous nomination letter. “Thank you, thank you so much, it's overwhelming to me, it really is.”
