Melissa Luck is the Assistant News Director at KXLY4 News. In addition to managing day-to-day newsroom operations and directing social media strategy, you'll also see her reporting and anchoring on TV as well.
Melissa came to KXLY4 News in 2002. She's covered crime, features and sports in the Inland Northwest and won awards for reporting, continuing coverage, writing and newscast producing. She holds the dubious distinction of being the first reporter in Spokane to have a blog (remember blogs?!?) and spends most of her waking hours on Twitter.
Melissa grew up in Great Falls, Montana and is a proud graduate of Marquette University. She's a second-generation journalist and made her TV debut with her sports reporter dad just a few hours after she was born. She has worked in newsrooms in Wisconsin, Washington, D.C. and Tri-Cities and spends time outside of work writing about newsroom best practices for journalism organizations and think tanks.
Melissa is married to Good Morning Northwest Anchor Derek Deis, who has indoctrinated her into the sometimes heart-wrenching world of WSU Cougar fandom. While her first love is her Marquette Golden Eagles, she's also an adopted Coug and tailgating at Martin Stadium is among her favorite activities.
Derek and Melissa have two sons, Dylan and Daniel. They also have two adopted shelter dogs, Chewy and Roxie. In her spare time, Melissa is a lifelong rower, a passionate (loud!) sports fan, a disturbingly slow triathlete and a self-proclaimed book snob.
Her favorite part of the week is her Thursday morning appearances as part of the Dave, Ken and Molly show's Panel of Women on 929 ZZU.
