Kootenai County's crime rate is now tops in the state of Idaho.
According to an Idaho State Police report, the overall crime rate in Idaho dropped 1.5 percent in 2012, but in Kootenai County, it's up 9.3 percent. That means out of 100,000 residents, there were 7,210 offenses.
And Coeur d'Alene is the city with the highest crime rate. Kootenai County Sheriff's spokesman, Lt. Stu Miller says part of the blame lies on staffing, another part on the number of out of town visitors, especially from Spokane.
