Working 4 You: Should you upgrade your TV to Ultra-Def?

SPOKANE, Wash. - It's the latest, greatest technology when it comes to your TV, but is it time to upgrade your HDTV to ultra high-definition? Not unless you have a bunch of money and don't know where to spend it.

When the consumer trend went from standard definition to high definition a few years back, there was a notable difference. Suddenly, you could see every mole on our necks and every hair out of place (thanks for pointing that out, by the way.) Now, technology is shifting from high def to ultra def, meaning more pixels and better detail.

Not surprisingly these TVs cost a lot more, too. We're talking between $2,000 and $10,000 for a new set. Consumer Reports calls the change incremental and a difference you probably won't notice unless you're watching on a TV 84" or larger.

"We say to wait," says Consumer Reports' Jim Wilcox. "This is an industry that tends to report procrastinators anyway. So, we know the prices are going to fall. Really, the only people that should be considering them right now are people who just have tons of disposable income or those people whose TVs are broken and they want to future-proof their purchase."

The bottom line? Stick with that HDTV a little longer. Wait until the prices come down. And, trust me, you don't want to see our faces in larger-than-life living color anyway.
