Whiskey, bourbon

For many football fans, it's traditional to do a shot, drink a beer or imbibe in some other vaguely ceremonial way when one's team scores.

This year, with two high-powered offenses going on the field, that kind of thing could lead to alcohol poisoning or, worse, becoming a Cowboys fan.

Unless you've recently joined a fraternity or are planning to watch the game in a bar along Bourbon Street, you probably don't want to drink vast quantities while watching the Super Bowl. So why not go for quality over quantity this year? Get the really good stuff, and make some really good drinks with it.

Pink Caipirinha

4 limes, cut in 8 pieces each ½ cup sugar 1 cup cachaca (Brazilian sugar cane rum) ¼ cup pomegranate liqueur

In a heavy glass container, combine the limes and the sugar. With a meddler or pestle, crush the limes with the sugar, extracting the juice. Add the cachaca and the pomegranate liquor and and shake.

Serve it in glasses full with crushed ice or cubes.
